Curious About Climate? Head to Rochester 20th June…

Dealing with weather events such as floods, fires, storms and droughts is not new for regional communities. But with the current changes in long term weather patterns and further changes predicted, getting into action now, with new approaches, will make the future we face more manageable.

This is the key topic at a community gathering coming up in Rochester on Thurs 20th June called Outside the Square – Curious About Climate?

Facilitated by Bendigo based Make a Change Australia, this event is part of Ramp Up Resilience: ‘a series of thoughtful programs about climate, how it impacts us and what we’ll do about it

“Curious About Climate is an opportunity to participate in talks, information sharing and networking. To tune into some of the challenges faced and the innovative solutions people have created, but more importantly identify ideas and steps we can take, to make things better for all.” says organizer Karen Corr of Make a Change.

Cr Leigh Wilson of Campaspe Shire, who is attending the event, sees that many people are already doing great work in regional communities. “But with limited direction nationally, we need to ramp up our local efforts to support the prosperity and wellbeing of our own communities.”

Interesting local solutions will be shared on the night, followed by discussion and an opportunity to learn more. Topics covered include: planting and seed farms for the future; community owned renewable energy; building recovery ready communities; innovative farming practices; and young people advocating for change.

“From farmers, business owners, community leaders, health providers, residents and more, this topic is relevant to everyone and we are encouraging all from across Central Victoria and beyond to attend” said Karen.

The free event will take place 5.30pm – 8.30pm at the Rochester Shire Hall and light supper will be provided. A free bus service is also available to assist with travel from Wedderburn, Inglewood, Raywood and Bendigo, but bookings are essential as places are limited.
