Members of Boort Resource and Information Centre (BRIC) have been busy turning more than 30 kilograms of chocolate into hundreds of large chocolate freckles to deliver to their community.
The giant freckles make up part of a COVID care pack, including a flyer created by BRIC to help promote staying happy over COVID times (covering the 5 ways to wellbeing) and a message from the Royal Flying Doctors. The idea came about after a meeting between Boort Resource and Information Centre, Boort District Health (BDH) and Northern District Community Health (NDCH), as a way to extend warm wishes to the community.
Sophia Herrington, BRIC Centre Manager says, “We hope it makes you smile. We have loved doing it for the Communities, as we have not been able have any of the planned community activities due to COVID restrictions. We will continue to plan for these other activities in the future.”
Utilising money from a Coliban Water Grant and with financial support from BDH and NDCH, the BRIC members were able to make 530 COVID care packages, to post to every household and mail run in Boort, Durham Ox and Mysia. BRIC also purchased a book, Dr Seuss’ Oh The Places You’ll Go as part of a gift pack for the Graduating Class of 2020 at the Boort District School.
“We thought this was a good way to reach a part of the community that has certainly struggled with COVID restrictions this year,” Sophia says.
BRIC would like to acknowledge the support of Boort IGA and Boort Post Office, as well as the above financial partners.
