Creatability is one, if not the only, longest running multi-art form community arts group based in Bendigo. They are a professional production and visual arts company presenting their work regularly at the Castlemaine State Festival and soon to take up an artist in residence position at the Old Fire Station.
The Make a Change team spoke with Creative Producer John Willis about where people in Bendigo will find work by Creatability.
“What I am keen to build in Bendigo in 2016 is a culture of performance,” John shares. “Castlemaine has an active performance culture and Creatability works with many artists from there. Ultimately I want less of a divide between Bendigo and Castlemaine and rather think of us as all as one region.

John acknowledges that Bendigo has fabulous facilities for performance and during their 2016 residency he will continue to push the company to work across all art forms and explore their connections to performance.
“I have been influenced by the idea that a play or performance is not necessarily just about text telling a linear story,” John goes onto explain. “Theater and performance is looking back to its roots and looking at ritual and community expression.”
