ART Postcards Celebrating Local Visual Artists

By November 24, 20158. General News

160 ART Postcards were installed at The Bendigo Marketplace in mid October

Testing the Pop Up Art business model of : exhibiting miniature works, to demonstrate the larger artistic offering in the region

Initiated by Maree Tonkin at City of Greater Bendigo and sponsored The Marketplace, it was a good example of collaboration between Council, Business, Arts Organisation, Community and Artists

Produced on the smell of an oily rag, the installation looked fab, thanks to generous volunteers! “It was small, sweet and really interesting…..”

Participation was terrific and that’s an important message to arts partners and funders:

– 260 artists expressed written interest over 3.5 months

– 130 registered

– 105 artists fully participated

– 160 artworks were exhibited ( inc. about 50 young artists at high school age, independently or via their schools and about 20 well established artists wanting to interact where ever possible )

– All 4 Partnering Shires were well represented Macedon Ranges Shire Council, Hepburn Shire Council, Mount Alexander Shire Council and City of Greater Bendigo, with Bendigo having the most applicants

– 15 inquiries were taken to purchase about 60 pieces of art. With generally low asking prices, people were keen to buy several

– Many artists came by to see the show in situ

Bring on more partnerships we say – to support great creative community outcomes just like this one ……and grow our arts economy!
