These are both challenging and rewarding times, depending on your point of view. Many people have more questions than answers, like: How to adapt? For how long? And why?
This inquiry is the basis of a new program being launched by Make a Change Australia this week called: Let’s Pivot. It is a free community and professional development program for community leaders, organisations and individuals to change their strategy without changing their vision.
Make a Change Australia has experience with supporting communities to make necessary changes in collaboration with others. Partners in this initiative are the City of Greater Bendigo, Gannawarra Shire, Loddon Shire, City of Ballarat, Coliban Water, North Central Catchment Management Authority, The Bushfire Foundation and Bendigo Bank.
“The key question for us is what can be done with what we already have” says Karen Corr, who’s leading this project. “Building upon Albert Einstein’s famous quote: The measure of intelligence is the ability to change, the answers will lie in how we think and what we can create with what’s available.”
This is particularly relevant for community groups that provide essential support, social connection, health and wellbeing services for local people. Groups and organisations, that are commonly under resourced, volunteer driven, fragile frameworks of good intent.
“Let’s Pivot has been designed to fill a gap” says Karen. “We intend for the program to support existing efforts through the delivery of information; digital connectivity; adaptation ideas and real time support leading to inspiration for change.
“Community organisations survive and thrive on the energy that flows in from members, from the excitement of recruiting new people to take part in what is being created and from the continuity of that contact, like a joining of hands” says Rosemary Sorenson of the Bendigo Writer’s Festival.
“Make a Change understood immediately what it meant for the chain to be broken, and how devastating that could be, so to see them work so hard to find a way to repair the broken links, to assist organisations such as ours to find ways forward and to make new conversations possible, is brilliant.”
Let’s Pivot is being delivered entirely online from October 2020 to March 2021. Participation is free. All are invited to join in any way that suits, such as: subscribing to receive info-mailers, joining zoom discussions, and accessing digital resources and information tools from an online impact hub.
